Two teenage girls and a male accomplice are on trial for a brutal attack on a gay man that witnesses compared to a scene from the horrifically violent film Clockwork Orange. Prosecutors say the drunken trio shouted homophobic abuse at Ian Baynham, 62, before the male punched him to the ground where the girls, both 18, kicked and stomped on him, the Telegraph reports. Baynham died in a hospital 18 days later.
The attack in London's tourist hot spot Trafalgar Square "was an all too familiar and depressing tale of drunken, loutish behavior. But what they did went far beyond mere anti-social conduct," the chief prosecutor told the Old Bailey. "Fueled by copious amounts of alcohol, all three jointly participated in a violent attack on a defenseless man in public." The three defendants have pleaded not guilty to manslaughter.
