Big Winner in Occupy's Lawsuits: the Lawyers

New York City will shell out $350,000 to settle three lawsuits brought by Occupy Wall Street protesters—who will walk away with a just portion of that. The protesters sued over seized property that was never returned or became damaged during the Nov. 15, 2011, police raid on the Zuccotti Park encampment. As the New York Post reports, 26 truckloads of Occupy's stuff was hauled away, among it 3,600 books, only 800 of which were both recovered and salvageable, per one of the lawsuits.

Protestors got the $47,000 they were asking for, partly paid by the park's owner. The second lawsuit will see the city pay Global Revolution Television $75,000 over broken electronics. The city is paying $8,500 to a bike group for damaged bikes in the third suit. But lawyers come out of top: Normal Siegel exits with $186,349 in legal fees, according to insiders; $49,850 will be paid to Wylie Stecklow. (More Occupy Wall Street stories.)
