In the wake of star Shain Gandee's death, MTV has decided to cancel reality series Buckwild—and producer JP Williams is not happy about it. "This is the network that has shows about teen pregnancy," Williams told the Hollywood Reporter last night. "They'll stick by a show that allows you to abandon a child, but a kid dies by accident doing what he does for a living and they cancel the show? There's something that smells of s--t here on every level." Gandee died with two other men of carbon monoxide poisoning after his truck got stuck while they were off-roading.
Williams says he was told Friday that MTV would keep the show, which is halfway through filming the second season and was planning a special dedicated to Gandee to open the season. Then, yesterday, MTV changed its mind. "There was no explanation," Williams says. He implies that he'll keep shooting, and may look to fund and produce a Buckwild movie. "This will get ugly," he says. An MTV spokesman confirmed the show's cancellation today, the AP reports. (More Shain Gandee stories.)
