(AP Photo/Evan Agostini, file) Dana Milbank had to do something truly appalling for the sake of his next book: “I’ve signed up for the elite membership on GlennBeck.com,” he says. The Washington Post humorist has begun writing a book on Fox’s volatile host, titled Tears of a Clown, he tells Politico, and if his past writings are any indication, it won’t be a kind portrait. Milbank thinks Beck’s secret is that he’s willing to be more outrageous than other conservative talkers. “He has a lower bar, and commercially, it’s pure genius.” He adds that he doesn’t think Beck actually believes his own rants. “He’s been extraordinarily successful at finding what the people want to hear and giving it to them.” The book should hit stores later this year.
