Dow Rises 111 on Housing Data

Better news from the housing industry sent stocks higher today, including an increase in the number of people with contracts to buy homes. The National Association of Realtors said its index of sale contracts rose 1% in December.

  • The Dow Jones industrial average rose 111 points to 10,297.
  • The S&P 500 rose 14 points to 1,103.
  • The Nasdaq rose 19 points to 2,190.
