Americans are dog people—at least, that's finding of a new poll from the AP and Petside.com. Nearly 75% of respondents said they liked dogs a lot, while only 41% said they liked cats a lot. And cats are way more disliked: 15% of adults polled said they didn't like them, but only 2% said the same of dogs.

"Cats are all about cats, but dogs are interested in pleasing their owners," says a Washington man. But cat lovers are just as passionate: "Cats are 1,000 times smarter than dogs," asserts a South Dakota woman. The general consensus on pets plays out in ownership: of the 59% of households that own pets, 74% own dogs while 47% own cats.
