Glenn Beck is always preparing to get fired for his comments, but that doesn’t curb this right-wing CNN anchor's wildest impulses. Beck has fueled a chorus of liberal calls for his ouster since he joined the network last year, but he’s less a partisan blowhard than Limbaugh and Hannity are, GQ reports—and his anger and Islamophobia come from more personal places.

A devout Mormon with a troubled adolescence, the anchor who’s called Katrina survivors “scumbags” and Cindy Sheehan a “tragedy pimp” has the fastest-growing audience in cable news.  But his belief that radical Islam puts America in apocalyptic danger is genuine, and the emotional Beck—who cries on air and displays Norman Rockwell posters in his home—even has the (off the record) respect of some liberal critics.
