He may not look like much, but boxer-mix Pabst dug up $1,600 for his owner by winning the annual World's Ugliest Dog contest. Rescued from an animal shelter by Californian Miles Egstad, Pabst and his remarkable looks—a pronounced under-bite, crumpled face, and floppy ears—took first prize in the Sonoma-Marin Fair contest.
Beyond the money, Pabst also dragged home pet supplies and a modeling contract with House of Dog. Former champion Rascal, a pedigree Chinese Crested, was unable to retain the crown, losing to Pabst in an upset. A blind 15-year-old Chinese Crested Hairless named Miss Ellie took the pedigree category.
