Israeli jets struck three smuggling tunnels under the Gaza-Egypt border today in the second day of renewed airstrikes, the AP reports. There were no reports of injuries. The Israeli military said the strikes—the first in almost two months—were in response to rocket and mortar attacks on Israel from within Gaza today and yesterday.
A militant group called the Palestinian Resistance Committee claimed responsibility for today's mortar attack on Israel, which caused no casualties, Reuters reports. Halting rocket fire and cross-border smuggling was the key objective of Israel's 3-week assault on Gaza early this year, which a Palestinian group says killed 1,417 people and the Israeli military says killed 1,156.
