North Korea is demanding an apology from the UN Security Council for condemning its rocket test this month, threatening more tests of nuclear and conventional missiles if it is not mollified, the Guardian reports. Pyongyang demanded the council drop its resolutions against North Korean military tests. The South Korean government accused the North of “directly challenging” the international community

“This is going beyond their usual aggressiveness or recklessness,” said a former South Korean foreign minister. Kim Jong-Il “is putting pressure on the Obama administration to start negotiating directly with North Korea.” Pyongyang may be trying to catch the White House off balance, said a UK analyst, “to try to get them into the process before Washington has decided what its strategy is.” (More North Korea stories.)
