Nabbed Pirate Arrives in NY

The only pirate to survive the attempted hijacking of the Maersk Alabama has arrived in New York to face charges, the New York Daily News reports. Abduhl Wali-i-Musi, manacled and flanked by a dozen agents, smiled for photographers as he was led into FBI headquarters in Manhattan. Investigators have determined he's at least 18 and can be tried as an adult.

Wali-i-Musi's mother, however, insists her son is only 16 and was led astray by "gangsters with money," she told AP. She appealed to President Obama to free him. A civil rights lawyer is attempting to form a team to represent the teen. But one legal expert noted that any American lawyer with experience defending piracy cases has been dead for over a century.
