Sudan said today that foreign fighter planes carried out an attack in January on 17 trucks carrying weapons to Gaza, amid reports that the Israeli Air Force was behind the bombardment. The strike killed 39 people near the Sudan-Egypt border soon after the start of the war in the Gaza Strip. Israel has refused to confirm or deny the allegations, Haaretz reports.

CBS News reported yesterday that Israeli intelligence learned of the weapons shipment in mid-January, around the time that Israel and the US signed a security-intelligence memorandum on cooperation to block arms smuggling. While the American air force is not suspected of involvement, the attack has led to suggestions of a "shadow war" taking place against Hamas and its weapons sources that both the US and Israel have not acknowledged.
