A British grandmother was trussed "naked like a chicken" in her sailboat cabin while pirates beat her husband with hammers and slit his throat off the coast of Thailand, she told the Times of London. Three men "tied and gagged me, then went toward the forward cabin," she said. "I heard my husband shouting, ‘Get off my boat.'" The pirates forced her to start the engine then stood watch over her until daybreak.

"I made gestures as if to ask, 'Are you going to kill me?' They made signs to say 'No,' they were going to leave," she told the Telegraph. She wriggled from her bonds when the pirates fled in a dinghy—and took off full throttle when they turned back as their engine sputtered. "I can't believe I survived," she said. Thai authorities plan to seek the death penalty for the three migrant teenagers arrested soon afterward.
