Hip-Hop Fans Get Own Guitar Hero

Could DJs be the next Guitar Heroes? The publisher of Scratch: The Ultimate DJ hopes so. "I know that Scratch can reinvigorate DJ culture," turntable icon Mix Master Mike tells Ars Technica of the videogame, due out this summer. It'll push kids "into getting real turntables to not only keep the art alive but to spawn a new generation of DJs and beat makers," he says.

“Scratch not only simulates the art of scratching, but it also helps with practicing your timing and precision as a real-life DJ,” says Mike, who helped with the game. “The gameplay is designed to inspire players to be creative with the music and learn to improvise like real DJs do.” But the game’s largely-unknown publisher will face some stiff competition from Activision’s upcoming DJ Hero.
