Trump: SCOTUS Ruling Will Backfire in My Favor

President Trump blasted the Supreme Court's decision to invalidate most of his tariffs on Friday—but he vowed that he will use different tactics to bring in even more money. "We have alternatives," he said at an afternoon news conference, reports the Wall Street Journal. "Very powerful alternatives."

• Trump said he was "absolutely ashamed" of the justices who ruled against him in the 6-3 decision, adding that "they're very unpatriotic and disloyal to our Constitution." However, he lavished particular praise on Justice Brett Kavanaugh for his dissenting opinion, per the AP.

• The details of Trump's workaround were still being fleshed out, but he said he would sign orders to restore tariffs using other statutes. One is Section 122 of the Trade Act of 1974, which would allow him to enact 10% tariffs for 150 days, reports the New York Times. However, he would then need congressional approval to extend them, according to the paper. Trump also said "several" tariffs would be imposed under Section 301 of the act.
• "In order to protect our country, a president can actually charge more tariffs than I was charging in the past period of a year under the various tariffs authorities," Trump said, per the Washington Post.
