Joe Biden’s son will be deployed to Iraq on October 3, the Washington Post reports, and while that may be a difficult personal event for Biden, it might boost his already promising case to become Barack Obama’s running mate. “I don’t want him going,” Biden said last year. “But I don't want my grandsons or granddaughters going back in 15 years.”

Joseph Robinette “Beau” Biden III is a rising political star himself, currently serving as Delaware’s attorney general. Delaware political observers have long expected the National Guard captain to succeed his father in the Senate, but his deployment would complicate that prospect if his father should win the VP nod, and the ticket should win the White House.
