'Young Old People' Defend McCain From Age Attacks

A group of fit Florida seniors have stepped up to the plate to defend candidate John MCain from criticism that he's too old to competently govern the country. "I think he could do the job in his 90s," said a supporter, one of several men born within days of McCain's birthday who were contacted by the St. Petersburg Times.

One cemetery salesman believes that while McCain could do a good job, he's not so sure about a 72-year-old Democrat. The Democrats have burned so much energy hating President Bush that "they've probably shortened their life spans," he said. Proving a sense of humor doesn't disappear with age, one fitness buff thought about the competence question for a few seconds, then asked: "What was the question?"
