As Ron DeSantis was riding high on his massive re-election win and the fawning press that has followed, Donald Trump pooh-poohed all of that in an anti-DeSantis statement he released Thursday. "NewsCorp, which is Fox, the Wall Street Journal, and the no longer great New York Post (bring back Col!), is all in for Governor Ron DeSanctimonious, an average REPUBLICAN Governor with great Public Relations," Trump said, per the Hill. He claimed a "politically dead" DeSantis who was in "desperate shape" approached him asking for an endorsement in 2017, which is why he won the 2018 race for Florida governor in the first place.

As for his popularity now, Trump said DeSantis "has the advantage of SUNSHINE, where people from badly run States up North would go no matter who the Governor was, just like I did!" He also said DeSantis is "playing games" by not saying whether he's planning to run for president in 2024, and accused him of lacking "loyalty and class" when it comes to that decision. If DeSantis does run, betting markets now give him the edge on winning, per the Hill. Both he and Trump, however, currently have an edge over President Biden in the presidential odds. Meanwhile, advisers are urging Trump to put off his own 2024 announcement, currently scheduled for next week. (More Donald Trump 2024 stories.)
