The thing about laying off 50% of your employees in a single day is that you're bound to make mistakes. Bloomberg reports that Twitter is now reaching out to "dozens" of laid-off workers and asking them to return. It seems the company either laid these particular employees off by mistake or realized belatedly they were necessary for Elon Musk's evolving vision for the platform, per Fortune. The site Platformer first reported the news.

The gaffe doesn't change the larger narrative: Twitter cut loose about 3,700 employees on Friday and has roughly that number remaining. “Regarding Twitter’s reduction in force, unfortunately there is no choice when the company is losing over $4M/day,” Musk had tweeted on Friday evening. (The company will delay its new verification subscription plan until after the midterms.)
