If former President Donald Trump complies with a House subpoena and shows up to answer questions, don't expect a sideshow, Rep. Liz Cheney said Sunday. He'll be questioned under oath behind closed doors, she said, in an appearance handled with "rigor and discipline and seriousness," CNN reports. Cheney, vice chair of the House committee investigating the attack on the Capitol, made the remarks on NBC's Meet the Press. "This isn’t going to be, you know, his first debate against Joe Biden and the circus and the food fight that that became," Cheney said. "This is a far too serious set of issues."

The committee issued the subpoena on a unanimous vote, scheduling the deposition for around Nov. 14, per CNBC. The panel also asked for documents. There's been no word on whether Trump will comply, though he's called the subpoena a political stunt, per the Hill. If he does not, Cheney said the committee has "many, many alternatives" it could pursue. The Republican lawmaker did not say what they are. (More Donald Trump stories.)
