An allegedly drunken horseman was taken into custody Saturday, say police in Whittier, California. In an Instagram post, police said there was an unusual—and brief—pursuit after they encountered an "intoxicated person on a horse, galloping through traffic," who refused to pull over, the Los Angeles Times reports. Police said the man was arrested on suspicion of DUI and his steed was taken to the police station, where it got "lots of love."

The California Vehicle Code states that people riding animals on state roadways are "subject to all of the duties applicable to the driver of a vehicle … except those provisions which by their very nature can have no application," meaning the legal blood alcohol limit is the same whether a person is behind the wheel or in the saddle, KTLA notes.
