It must have seemed like a good idea at the time. Three men police say are suspects in a bank robbery in Charlotte, North Carolina, stopped to switch to a different getaway car. Their planning fell through, however, and the police saw the switch take place, the Charlotte Observer reports. Instead of getting away in their getaway car, the robbery suspects crashed into a dead end. Police say three people armed with rifles held up a Bank of America branch. Nobody was hurt, but authorities didn’t say whether any money was stolen.
Shortly after the holdup was reported, police saw a car with their suspects make a turn into a neighborhood. The three men got out and switched to a new car, but police, who had support from a helicopter, saw the switcheroo and followed. Police tried to pull that car over, but instead it crashed on a road that dead-ends near an interstate. The men got out of the car and police say they tried to run—but they stopped instead of attempting to make it across I-77. Three men, Kendell Alexander, 57, Steven McCory, 36, and Derrius Fleming, 30, were charged with armed robbery with a dangerous weapon, WSOC-TV reports. (More weird crimes stories.)
