Now Japan's Going After Ghosn's Wife

Fugitive Carlos Ghosn will have a new complaint to discuss at his Wednesday press conference in Beirut. On the eve of that press conference, Tokyo prosecutors issued an arrest warrant for Ghosn's wife, accused of perjury. Fashion entrepreneur Carole Ghosn is suspected of making false statements during a witness examination at a Tokyo court last April, reports the Japan Times. And her husband is not happy. "The issuance of this warrant is pathetic," a Ghosn rep tells Reuters. "Last time Carlos Ghosn announced a press conference and got re-arrested. This time, the day before he is announced to speak out freely for the first time, they issued an arrest warrant for his wife," who voluntarily traveled to Japan to answer prosecutors' questions.

Ghosn has insisted that his wife played no role in his escape last week from Japan to Lebanon. But she was there waiting for him and said it was the "best gift of my life." Ghosn, facing charges of financial wrongdoing in Japan, was barred from contacting his wife while on bail. The pair have since been photographed dining out in Beirut on New Year's Eve, per Business Insider. Ghosn is expected to speak with journalists Wednesday about what he's called a "rigged" justice system in Japan. But Nissan is seeking to counter the former chief executive's narrative early. "The company will continue to take appropriate legal action to hold Ghosn accountable for the harm that his misconduct has caused," reads a Tuesday statement, per CNN.
