Talk about gutsy: A 5-year-old picked up a toddler and trekked through freezing temperatures after the power went out in their home, Fox News reports. The children had been left alone in Venetie, Alaska, where temperatures fell to 31 degrees below zero outside—not unusual in the village some 155 miles north of Fairbanks. Wearing only light clothing and socks, the older child took the 18-month-old to another home a half mile away. Both endured cold-induced injuries along the way. Troopers chartered a plane to Venetie and arrested Julie Peter, 37, whose relationship with the kids is unknown. She was charged with endangering the welfare of a minor in the first degree, KTUU reports. (More Alaska stories.)
