It was the first World Series in which the home team lost all seven games, the first World Series win for a Washington team since 1924—and the first-ever Series win for the Washington Nationals, who started out as the Montreal Expos in 1969. The 6-2 Game 7 win happened in Houston, but the celebrations were in DC, where more than 16,000 fans had gathered for a watch party at Nationals Park, the Washington Post reports. The stadium—along with packed bars and many other establishments in the city—erupted in celebration after the come-from-behind win. "The energy was incredible. It was electrifying," says fan Holly Baynham.
"Congratulations to the Washington Nationals on a great season and an incredible World Series. Game 7 was amazing," tweeted President Trump. ESPN calls the inning that decided the series the "Seventh-Inning Shocker," and calls Howie Kendrick's two-run home run, which gave the Nats a 3-2 lead, "one of the most dramatic Game 7 homers in World Series history." Washington DC Mayor Muriel Bowser says the championship parade will start at 2pm Saturday. It is expected to be as big as the one held for the Washington Capitals after their first-ever Stanley Cup win last year. (More World Series stories.)
