Don't look now, but the Iowa caucuses are a mere 97 days away. With crunch time in the 2020 election drawing ever closer, two political forecasts out Tuesday are attracting a fair share of attention:

  • Biden in Iowa: A story at Bloomberg warns that Joe Biden is running the risk of a "humiliating" finish of third or even fourth place in Iowa unless his campaign gets more aggressive. The gist is that Elizabeth Warren and Pete Buttigieg in particular are outworking Biden, especially when it comes to the face-to-face campaigning the state prefers. Biden's campaign brushes off the concerns, but the chair of the Mitchell County Democratic Party puts it this way: "There's still time ... but action needs to be taken."

  • GOP fears: Axios reports that a growing number of Republicans are issuing private warnings that the party faces a "total wipeout" in the election, meaning losing the House, the Senate, and the White House. In the House, GOP members continue to resign; in the Senate, the GOP majority that once seemed pretty safe "suddenly looks in serious jeopardy"; and as for President Trump, he's trailing every big Democratic candidate in the polls, including in swing states. And all of this is happening while the economy is solid and before formal impeachment hearings get underway, notes the site.
