Talk about hoarding: Over 2,200 fetal remains were found Thursday at the home of a late abortion doctor in Illinois, CNN reports. The family of Ulrich Klopfer said they discovered the medically preserved remains at his Will County home after he died on September 3. A family attorney says authorities soon visited the property and took the remains. "We are horrified," Mike Fichter, president of Indiana Right to Life, tells the South Bend Tribune. "These sickening reports underscore why the abortion industry must be held to the highest scrutiny." US Rep. Jackie Walorski, a Republican, called it "sickening" and said she would call for federal legislation to "ensure the remains of aborted babies are always treated with dignity."

Behind the headlines was a man believed to be Indiana's most productive abortion doctor. Based in South Bend, Klopfer was accused more than once of ducking regulations—like allegedly having underqualified staff for sedation, making mistakes on reports, and giving abortions to girls under 13. He finally had his license suspended in 2016, when he was no longer practicing, but suggested a year earlier that authorities had it in for him. "If I had an agenda," he told the Tribune, "and I went to inspect a hospital and spent two or three days there, do you think I couldn't find errors or mistakes?" In over 30 years, he said, he never lost a patient or had a patient with "major complications." Why he hoarded 2,246 fetal remains is unclear. (More abortion stories.)
