Parents Died Shielding Their Baby in El Paso

As shots rang out in an El Paso Walmart on Saturday, Jordan Anchondo shielded her 2-month-old son, Paul, and her husband, Andre, shielded his wife and baby. Both parents died, leaving the little boy, a 2-year-old, and a 5-year-old daughter, whom they had just dropped off at cheer practice before heading to the store. "How do parents go school shopping and then die shielding their baby from bullets?" a relative says to CNN, noting that the infant was pulled from underneath his mother. "The baby still had her blood on him." He suffered broken fingers as a result of his mother's fall, KFOX reports, but is now home with family.

The names of other victims were also being released; the family of 86-year-old Angie Englisbee says she is among the dead, adding that she spoke to one of her sons while she was in the checkout line at the store. KFOX has a list of the victims currently identified, including a 15-year-old as well as a grandfather who reportedly died shielding his wife and young granddaughter. Six of the 20 killed were Mexican nationals; seven Mexican nationals were also injured in the shooting, and CNN reports Mexico is exploring legal action against the US. The country's secretary of foreign affairs, Marcelo Ebrard, on Sunday called the shooting an act of terrorism against Mexicans in the US. He also called gun control a "crucial issue."
