Police have a suspect in what they say was a literally juvenile prank in Texas. A video that went viral on social media last week showed a young lady taking a container of Blue Bell ice cream out of the freezer in a Lufkin Walmart, licking the top of the ice cream, then putting the container back in the freezer. Fox News reports that the Lufkin Police Department has their woman—or, rather, their girl, as the suspect is said to be underage. In a Facebook post Friday deemed "CASE SOLVED," the department said the "Blue Bell Licker" was a juvenile from San Antonio under the age of 17, and that her boyfriend, who can be heard egging her on in the video, is an adult. "They were both forthcoming with what occurred and admitted to the act," the post reads. Police add it was hard to track down the suspect at first, because a "catfish" imposter was taking credit for the incident.
"We do not intend to pursue charges against her as an 'adult' and therefore what happens from here is at the discretion of the juvenile justice system," the department notes, adding it's still mulling with prosecutors what to do about the boyfriend. If the girl had been charged as an adult with felony tampering of a consumer product, she could have faced between two and 20 years in prison. It's unclear what charges she may face as a juvenile. Meanwhile, in a statement on its website, Blue Bell is also expressing relief that the case is apparently closed. "Food safety is our top priority," the company says. "We are always looking for ways to improve, including looking at methods within our manufacturing process to add additional protection to the carton. This case is now in the hands of the Texas Juvenile Justice Department to pursue however it deems appropriate." (More Texas stories.)
