President Trump began his state visit to the UK on Monday by insulting London's mayor on Twitter minutes before his plane landed. Sadiq Khan "who by all accounts has done a terrible job as Mayor of London, has been foolishly 'nasty' to the visiting President of the United States, by far the most important ally of the United Kingdom. He is a stone cold loser who should focus on crime in London, not me," Trump tweeted. He added that Khan reminds him of "very dumb and incompetent" New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, "only half his height." "In any event, I look forward to being a great friend to the United Kingdom, and am looking very much forward to my visit. Landing now!" A spokesman for the mayor, who has described Trump as part of a global far-right threat, said the "childish insults" should be beneath the president of the United States, the Independent reports.

Trump, who landed at Stansted Airport around 9am local time, plans to attend a ceremony at Westminster Abbey on Monday before meeting Prince Charles for tea, the BBC reports. In the evening, the president and Melania Trump will attend a state banquet hosted by Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace. On Tuesday, he will hold a joint news conference with Prime Minister Theresa May, who is stepping down on Friday, reports the New York Times. Tens of thousands of protesters are expected to take to the streets during the visit, which is being boycotted by members of the opposition Labour Party, the Guardian reports. (Trump has denied calling Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, "nasty," although the Sun has audio of the interview.)
