President Trump continued his feud with the late John McCain Wednesday, telling an audience at a tank factory in Ohio that he "wasn't a fan" of the senator—and complaining that he was never thanked for approving his funeral seven months ago. "I gave him the kind of funeral he wanted, which as president I had to approve," Trump said. "I don't care about this, I didn't get a thank-you, that's OK." Trump —who was not invited to the funeral—approved the military flight that carried McCain's body from Arizona to Washington, but it was Congress that gave him the rare honor of lying in state at the Capitol, the BBC reports. The president began his latest attacks on McCain with tweets over the weekend.

In Ohio, Trump also complained that McCain "didn't get the job done for our great vets" and said he pushed a war in the Middle East "so hard," the Washington Post reports. The president's attacks on the highly respected McCain have been criticized by lawmakers including Sens. Mitt Romney and Johnny Isakson, reports the New York Times. "It's deplorable what he said," Isakson, a Georgia Republican, said Wednesday. "It will be deplorable seven months from now if he says it again, and I will continue to speak out." Daughter Meghan McCain said Trump's remarks Wednesday were a "bizarre new low," and said her father would find it "hilarious that our president was so jealous of him that he was dominating the news cycle in death as well." (McCain's widow has been receiving hateful messages.)
