Trump: From Now On, Let's Call It a 'Wall'

Forget "barrier," "steel slats," "bollard wall," or "fence." President Trump wants everyone to revert to a more basic term: "Lets just call them WALLS from now on and stop playing political games!" he tweeted on Thursday, reports USA Today. "A WALL is a WALL!" Trump's comments come as Republican and Democratic lawmakers will meet for a second day to try to hammer out an agreement on border security and avoid another shutdown. Trump didn't sound optimistic: He said Republicans on the panel "are wasting their time" because Democrats will not provide any money "to build the DESPERATELY needed WALL." He added: "I’ve got you covered. Wall is already being built, I don’t expect much help!"

The Hill notes that Trump might have been reacting to remarks from House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, who said any bipartisan compromise that might emerge doesn't have to include the word "wall." It could say something such as "barrier" instead, said McCarthy. While Trump repeatedly used the term "wall" before becoming president, he has shifted to other terms in recent months. Only last week, adviser Kellyanne Conway criticized reporters for turning "wall" into a "four-letter word" by insisting on using it while describing Trump's wishes, notes Politico. The president is now back on board with the term. "Renovation of existing WALLS is also a very big part of the plan to finally, after many decades, properly Secure Our Border," he wrote. "The Wall is getting done one way or the other!" (More President Trump stories.)
