Nancy Pelosi will take the gavel as House speaker on Thursday, which the Hill notes will effectively make her the face of the Democratic party until a 2020 candidate emerges. She'll also make a little history in the process, becoming the first person to become speaker in non-consecutive congresses since Henry Clay and Sam Rayburn more than 60 years ago. Pelosi previously made history by becoming the first woman to hold the position back in 2007. In an interview with USA Today, Pelosi says President Trump can expect a "different world" now that Democrats control the House. And in another with NBC's Savannah Guthrie, Pelosi suggested that Trump isn't safe from indictment just because he's a sitting president, making her the top-ranked official to say as much, reports Axios.

"Do you believe the special counsel should honor and observe the Department of Justice guidance that states a sitting president cannot be indicted?" Guthrie asks in the interview airing Thursday morning. "No, I mean I don't think—I do not think that that is conclusive," Pelosi replies. "I do not." In the USA Today interview, Pelosi says Trump can expect to be challenged on everything from the deaths of immigrant children in US custody, to the release of his tax returns, to the need to protect the Robert Mueller investigation. “He was used to serving with a Republican Congress, House and Senate that was a rubber stamp to him," says Pelosi. "That won't be the case." (She also vows not to budge on providing Trump's requested money for a border wall, the main sticking point in the current government shutdown.)
