President Trump again defended his Supreme Court nominee Monday, and he expressed confidence that Brett Kavanaugh would be confirmed to the court after the new FBI investigation is complete. "I don’t want to talk about plan B because I think—I hope he’s going to get approved," Trump told reporters in the Rose Garden, reports CNN. In related comments:

  • The 'trauma': Trump said he felt bad for Kavanaugh. "This is our seventh investigation of a man who has really—you look at his life, until this happened, what a change he's gone through," said Trump, per CNN. "The trauma for a man who has never had any accusations."

  • The investigation: "I want them to do a very comprehensive investigation," Trump said of the FBI. "Whatever that means according to the senators and the Republicans and the Republican majority, I want them to do that." The agency should "interview anybody they want but within reason," he added. "They should interview, but they should be guided by what the senators are looking for."
  • Trump's own non-drinking: Trump said he "was surprised at how vocal (Kavanaugh) was about he fact that he likes beer. ... This is not a man that said that he was perfect with respect to alcohol." Trump also talked about his own teetotalling ways. "I'm not a drinker, I can honestly say I've never had a beer in my entire life," he said, per USA Today. "It’s one of my only good traits. Can you imagine if I had, what a mess I’d be?"
  • An insult: Trump called on ABC's Cecilia Vega for the first question of the news conference, joking that she was "in a state of shock" that he picked her, reports the Washington Post. “I'm not. Thank you, Mr. President," Vega responded. To which Trump said: “That’s OK, I know you’re not thinking. You never do.” (He apparently thought she said, "I'm not thinking, Mr. President.") When Vega said, "I’m sorry?," Trump answered, “No, go ahead.” Watch the video.
