Andrew Sullivan calls Wright’s latest remarks “bitter and racist” and “a provocation"; he must be "clearly and irrevocably disowned." Martin Kaplan calls Wright “part of the negative politics that our country needs to transcend.” There are some Wright admirers in the group, and some who think the candidate should just change the subject forcefully, perhaps with a landmark speech on a more important issue. But Houston Baker says the senator’s responses up to this point have been “pandering disaster” and that there’s no losing Wright now.
