Last November, a documentary looked at the Indian Simpsons character Apu Nahasapeemapetilon and the way the exaggerated mannerisms of the Springfield Kwik-E-Mart owner push negative stereotypes of South Asians. On Sunday, The Simpsons responded to The Problem With Apu—and that response is not going over well. In Sunday night's episode, Marge is seen reading Lisa an updated, "politically correct," and much abbreviated version of a bedtime story. Bemoaning the newly sanitized version of the story, Lisa says, "Something that started decades ago and was applauded and inoffensive is now politically incorrect. What can you do?" She's looking pointedly at a photo of Apu inscribed with the Bart Simpson catchphrase, "Don't have a cow," while saying it. Reactions:
