President Trump is not only reportedly questioning the authenticity of a 2005 Access Hollywood tape in which he makes disparaging remarks about women but also former President Obama's birth certificate, as he did for years during Obama's tenure, according to the New York Times. Though Trump acknowledged Obama was born in the US during the 2016 election, per CNN, the president has aired reportedly doubts about Obama's 1961 Hawaiian birth "in recent months," including in conversation with an unnamed senator, the Times reports.
It describes the senator as having "chuckled" at the recollection of the conversation. The upshot of its piece: "Advisers say he continues to privately harbor a handful of conspiracy theories that have no grounding in fact." The Times report comes just as Obama resurfaced on the global stage Tuesday, beginning a five-day overseas tour during which he will meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and perhaps French President Emmanuel Macron, per the AP.
