Chinese Police Arrest 3 UCLA Basketball Players

Three members of the UCLA men's basketball team were arrested Tuesday in China on suspicion of shoplifting from a Louis Vuitton store next to the team's hotel in Hangzhou, sources tell ESPN. The Bruins are set to open their season against Georgia Tech on Friday in Shanghai. The three arrested players are freshmen Cody Riley, Jalen Hill, and LiAngelo Ball, younger brother of Los Angeles Lakers rookie and second-overall-pick Lonzo Ball.

A source says the players were taken away from the hotel in a police vehicle after being questioned in a room for hours. "They weren't messing around," the source says of Chinese police. "The kids were scared." UCLA states it's "cooperating fully with local authorities." LaVar Ball has said his son will only play one season for UCLA before jumping to the NBA, the Los Angeles Times reports. (More China stories.)
