The "rarest album ever created" is again up for grabs. Martin Shkreli, who bought the sole copy of Wu-Tang Clan's Once Upon a Time in Shaolin for a reported $2 million in a 2015 deal that required he keep it from the public for 88 years, has put the album up for sale on eBay, reports Page Six. In the auction description, the pharmaceutical executive notes he purchased the album "as a gift to the Wu-Tang Clan for their tremendous musical output" but "received scorn from at least one of their (least-intelligent) members, and the world at large failed to see my purpose of putting a serious value behind music." He now wants it to go to "someone with a bigger heart for music." It was listed Tuesday with a starting price of $1 and is sitting at $96,200 as of this writing.
Shkreli claims half of the proceeds from the sale will go to "medical research"—"my companies and I have record amounts of cash on hand," he writes—but he wouldn't provide details when reached for a comment. "Instead he unleashed a string of expletives and then requested to engage in a lewd act with a reporter," reports Page Six. There's actually no guarantee any donation will be made. Shkreli, who has offered to pay $25,000 toward the buyer's legal fees, notes "at any time I may cancel this sale and I may even break this album in frustration." Bidding closes Sept. 15.
