Chinese authorities, usually quick to censor the Web, have let the sentiment flow, believing "the West is trying to humiliate them again," according to a US political scientist.
"They have economic achievements to show, and they have advanced without wars, and without upsetting the international apple cart," says the professor, yet the perception is “the West will give them no credit." Rep. Nancy Pelosi and CNN commentator Jack Cafferty have been objects of derision for recent comments—indeed, T-shirts reading “shut up CNN” are available on a Chinese auction site.
