Everyone Needs to Calm Down About the Wrestling Tweet

By some of the reaction to President Trump's wrestling video, you'd think he directly ordered his supporters to attack journalists. Come on, people, writes Jon Levine at Mediaite. The video was a "stupid joke," and that's all. Those on the left who have long been quick to criticize conservatives for arguing that video games or movies can incite violence are suddenly ready and willing to adopt the same argument when it comes to Trump, he notes. Levine isn't exactly defending the president or the video: He thinks it was another embarrassing gaffe, but he's weary of journalists making huge issues out of every Trump tweet.

Also ridiculous is the line of thought that Trump had some kind of anti-Semitic agenda in mind when he retweeted the video, given previous comments by its Reddit creator, he writes. A much safer bet: Trump got wind of the the video circulating online and thought it was funny. "Whether it's taco bowls or Wrestlemania, sometimes a joke is just a joke, and when people wake up one day and ask when exactly health care went off the rails or how we got into a nuclear war with North Korea without anybody noticing—I hope you'll remember the URL to this humble take," writes Levine.
