The city of Minneapolis has been drawn into an old-fashioned reality TV spat. The Star Tribune reports the city is suing Nicole Curtis, the star of HGTV's Rehab Addict (it's about fixing-up houses, not drug recovery), over a house she bought from the city for $2 back in 2012. The run-down house was supposed to be featured on Rehab Addict, according to KMSP. As part of her purchase agreement with Minneapolis, Curtis was supposed to "substantially complete" improvements on the house within a year. The city says she failed to do that. It also claims Curtis failed to pay property taxes on the house. Now it wants the house back, claiming breach of contract.
Neighbors have been complaining about the house for months. One describes it to WCCO as "a blight on an otherwise great block." But Curtis' lawyers blame the city for preventing her from keeping her end of the bargain, saying she's had a hard time getting a building permit from the city. And they say she paid the property taxes after getting a default letter from the city in 2015. Curtis herself isn't officially commenting on the lawsuit, but she is sharing a few thoughts on social media. "I told my team to ignore the negativity. The only way I've gotten this far is by staying on my path," she posts on Instagram. "I love when people who sit on their rears doing nothing put 2cents in regarding the work others are doing :)," she adds on Twitter. (Five stars fired from reality shows.)
