An Italian prince has died in a tragic accident on the streets of London. Filippo Corsini, 21 and "the heir to one of Florence's oldest and most illustrious families," per the Guardian, was cycling in the city around 12:30pm Monday when he was hit by a large truck, pinned beneath a wheel, and dragged about 90 feet, according to witnesses. He was pronounced dead of "catastrophic injuries" at the scene about 30 minutes later, reports the Independent. He's now the eighth cyclist killed in London this year; another Italian cyclist was struck and killed in the city just last week.
A descendant of Pope Clement XII, who commissioned Rome's famous Trevi Fountain in 1730, Corsini was pursuing a business degree at Regent's University London. Though his family owns a wine and oil production business, per the Sun, the young prince had said he wanted to "discover the other side of the world" and "sweat and understand work," reports Sky News. A classmate described him as "a very nice guy, very hard working," as quoted in the Evening Standard. The 42-year-old driver of the truck involved in Monday's accident was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving. (A Saudi prince was just executed.)
