Eight people were killed and at least 40 were wounded in Chicago shootings this weekend, creating a disturbing new statistic overall: 1,000 more people shot in the city in 2016 compared with the same time last year, the Chicago Tribune reports. By this time last year, there were 2,441 victims of gun violence, while this year's numbers have come in at (and perhaps even surpassed) 3,475. Homicide figures in the same time period jumped by nearly 200, from 409 to 595. CBS Chicago details each of the shootings that took place over the weekend, including a mass shooting Friday in which gunfire broke out from a passing car, killing one and wounding six. (Donald Trump says he wants to use stop-and-frisk only in Chicago.)
