Stocks are ending higher, breaking a five-day losing streak, the AP reports. High-dividend stocks like phone companies and utilities rose more than the rest of the market Thursday as bond yields remained low. Verizon Communications and Consolidated Edison each rose 1%. Macy's rose 1% after it reached a tentative deal with workers at its New York store, avoiding a strike. The Dow Jones industrial average rose 92 points, or 0.5%, to 17,533. The Standard & Poor's 500 index rose 6 points, or 0.3%, to 2,077. The Nasdaq composite gained 9 points, or 0.2%, to 4,844. (More Dow Jones stories.)
