Donald Trump has decided that the Washington Post—winner of 47 Pulitzer prizes, including one for its role in exposing the Watergate scandal—isn't the kind of newspaper he wants covering his campaign. He announced on Facebook Monday that he's revoking the "phony and dishonest" paper's press credentials based on its "incredibly inaccurate coverage and reporting" of his campaign. NPR reports that Trump appears to have been angered by a Post story with the headline "Donald Trump suggests President Obama was involved with Orlando shooting," which was later changed. "We changed the headline shortly after it posted to more properly reflect what Trump said," a Post spokeswoman says. "We did so on our own; the Trump campaign never contacted us about it."

"Donald Trump's decision to revoke the Washington Post's press credentials is nothing less than a repudiation of the role of a free and independent press," Post Executive Editor Martin Baron said in a statement. "When coverage doesn't correspond to what the candidate wants it to be, then a news organization is banished. The Post will continue to cover Donald Trump as it has all along—honorably, honestly, accurately, energetically, and unflinchingly." Gawker reports that the Post joins a long line of news organizations banned or shunned by the Trump campaign, including Gawker, as well as the Huffington Post, Univision, Politico, BuzzFeed, the Daily Beast, the Des Moines Register, and others. (In February, Trump bragged about getting the New Hampshire Union Leader "kicked out of the ABC News debate like a dog.")
