Not only is Donald Trump standing by campaign manager Corey Lewandowski, who was charged with battery Tuesday, he's now accusing the woman who filed those charged, former Breitbart reporter Michelle Fields, of everything from lying to attempted assault. In an interview with reporters Tuesday afternoon, Trump said it was "unfair" what was happening to Lewandowski, who's been "very very seriously maligned," Mediaite reports. He went on to question whether Fields was making the whole thing up, saying the bruises allegedly left on her arm when Lewandowski grabbed her while she was trying to ask Trump a question following a campaign event could have already been there. “To me, if you’re gonna get squeezed, wouldn’t you think she would have yelled out a scream or something if she has bruises on her arm?" Politico quotes Trump.

The Washington Post notes Trump was taking a different tack on Twitter, where—in the course of a day—he went from claiming videos of the incident didn't show anything, to saying Fields changed her story, to accusing Fields of trying to attack him first. "Why is this reporter touching me as I leave news conference? What is in her hand??" Trump tweeted after wondering if he should press charges against Fields. The answer to what was in her hand: a pen. The Post showed a grudging admiration for Trump's ability to change the narrative surrounding the battery charges, stating he's "building a case worthy of Johnnie Cochran to point in every direction besides Lewandowski's."
