Mom Was High, Drunk When She Put Girl in Oven: Cops

The Texas woman who allegedly put her 2-year-old daughter into a heated oven last week was under the influence of pot, alcohol, and possibly also meth or a synthetic drug (like K2 or spice) at the time, police say. Tasha Hatcher was arrested after her daughter, who was naked when placed in the oven, suffered second- and third-degree burns on her back, torso, legs, and buttocks. Newly released records obtained by WFAA describe Hatcher's erratic behavior after the alleged incident: The neighbor who called authorities said Hatcher showed up on his doorstep, naked, with her burned daughter, and made sexual references, masturbated in front of the neighbor, and "kept singing to God and giving praise to him," according to the deputy who responded to the call. Hatcher also allegedly "performed lewd acts" and made sexual advances toward the deputy, Fox 4 reports.

Hatcher also allegedly told her neighbor she'd put the little girl, along with a cat she said she shot, into an oven. (Authorities haven't ever said whether a cat was found.) Hatcher continued "acting out sexually" when she was taken to an emergency room for a medical evaluation, authorities say, and the next day, she acted "incoherent" when being questioned by a CPS worker. She answered one question about her actions the night prior by saying, "Curiosity killed the cat," then, when asked what she meant, she replied, "Ask me questions and I will lie to you." Hatcher had been questioned by CPS in 2005 for allegedly allowing her son to get out of her house unsupervised and in 2006 for allegedly leaving him at a 24-hour daycare for more than 31 hours and allegedly being drunk at times when picking him up. In 2008, she allegedly kidnapped her son, who is currently in the care of his father. Hatcher's daughter will go into foster care when she is released from the hospital, the Dallas Morning News reports. (More Texas stories.)
