The Trump campaign manager embroiled in a dispute with an ex-Breitbart reporter who says he assaulted her apparently isn't much beloved within his own circle, either, with some staffers even planning a coup last month, sources tell Politico. Labeled by Roll Call as a "seasoned political operative" known for his "outspoken, bare-knuckles" style, 42-year-old Corey Lewandowski has rebutted the claims of Michelle Fields and insists his rapport with political reporters is "excellent," he tells Politico—but the site says interviews with more than 20 sources have unearthed complaints about Lewandowski not only from those on Trump's campaign, but also those privy to his alleged outbursts and bullying in his previous job for Americans for Prosperity, a Koch brothers-backed conservative advocacy group.

Among accusations against Lewandowski when he worked with AFP was that he warned he'd "blow up" the CFO's car, as well as a particularly contentious relationship with a female AFP official that led him to publicly berate her and call her a c--- in front of a group of AFP officials, per multiple sources. Since joining the Trump team, he's reportedly built a rep of dressing down staff who challenge him, spewing profanity, getting rough with reporters, and acting in a vulgar manner toward female journalists, supposedly making "sexually suggestive" comments that one reporter says are "completely inappropriate in a professional setting." A group of current and former high-ranking officials in Trump's campaign reportedly planned to give Trump a letter last month calling out Lewandowski's behavior, but that plan was tabled when Trump started claiming big primary victories. Trump so far is sticking by Lewandowski—and the controversial campaign manager is said to be boasting he's on the fast track for chief of staff if Trump wins the presidency.
