Flames Stay Ahead of Avalanche

The Calgary Flames moved two points ahead of the Colorado Avalanche for sixth place in the West with a 2-1 win last night , reports the Associated Press. Daymond Langkow and Craig Conroy both scored power-play goals in the first period as the Flames moved within a point of Minnesota for the lead in the Northwest Division. In other NHL action:

• The Vancouver Canucks won their third game in a row with a 4-1 win over the Edmonton Oilers. Matt Pettinger's second-period goal was the difference.
• The Phoenix Coyotes scored with 24 seconds left in regulation, but Patrick O'Sullivan scored in a shootout to give the Los Angeles Kings a 6-5 win.
